What is ALS?

ALS is a progressive neurodegenerative disease causing muscle weakness, paralysis, and eventual respiratory system failure. Despite being known for over a century, it remains severely underfunded, and approved treatments only slow progression and extend survival by a few months.

Although ALS has no known cure, the last few years have brought significant growth in research on ALS, including its underlying mechanisms and potential early-stage therapies. There are also now known to be over 60 documented spontaneous ALS reversals, including several who were taking supplements or alternative treatment modalities not covered by insurance. If ever there was a time to believe ALS is beatable, it is now.

What does Katie need?

Katie needs time—and our support.

ALS is known as “the bankruptcy disease”. To fight it, Katie, her husband, and her daughter will need support for costs of in-home medical and personal care, equipment and accessibility renovations to their home, and medical expenses and alternative therapies not covered by insurance.

To support them in this fight, we are asking your support by donating to help Katie and her family defray the financial burdens of fighting ALS.

Who is Katie?

Katie is an inspiration to so many and a proud product of Cape Cod. As a Nurse Practitioner, she dedicated her life to helping others in their greatest needs—in Emergency Departments, Children’s Hospital and Cancer Center Intensive Care Units, and the community with patients during housing and mental health challenges. But she is also a loving mother, wife, daughter, sister, and best friend to so many of us.

For as long as we have known her, Katie has put other people’s needs above her own, making a lifelong impact on countless people whose lives entwined with hers. Now, as a new mother to a beautiful baby girl, Katie needs our help to give to her daughter the love and support she has poured out on so many of us, for as long as it takes to beat ALS.

Let’s rally together to be the support she needs.
